20/05/2024 Pentecost festival

Thanks to the organisation of the Commercial and Hospitality Association of Dantxarinea, we hold this festival every year in the month of May.
Pentecost Monday was formerly the only day when the border opened and families on both sides could get together. It was therefore a day of celebration. When the border opened definitively, it was no longer celebrated. But local businesses decided to revive this event. Various activities are included: music, cider and pintxo snack tasting, inflatables, herri kirolak (rural sports) exhibition and the possibility of discovering Dantxarinea on board a choo-choo train. All the activities are free.
On this day a 1,500 euro cheque is also awarded, to be consumed in local shops by the winner of the Great Spring Lottery, who drives by those establishments in a convertible car accompanied by an accordionist.

24/05/2024 Bicycle race

This is the most significant bike race on Navarre’s calendar.
There are four stages on the 600 km route. Urdazubi/Urdax is a part of the second stage, recognised as being short and classic, at the level of the world’s best competitions, thanks to its 3,000 metre elevation difference. The route passes through the Baztán Valley, beginning in Urdazubi/Urdax and ending in Bagordi, after passing through Otsondo, Irurita, Saldias, Narbarte, Bagordi and Orabidea. The stage’s total length is 123 km.
The cyclists describe the stage with words such as ‘tough’ and ‘beautiful’.

20/07/2024 Ikaburu cave day

We celebrate Ikaburu Cave Day in the month of July.
This is a festive day with many activities organised to discover the world of stalactites and stalagmites, legendary figures, guerrillas and smugglers. The activities include an artisans’ market, a demonstration of techniques from prehistoric life, a txalaparta percussion workshop, a magic show and prize draws, etc.
It is a perfect opportunity to learn and spend an enjoyable day.

We celebrate this festival in the month of July.
The exhibition showcases various modalities of the Basque game of pelota: hand pelota for children, pala bat, paleta bat and jai alai (cesta punta). Each modality lasts 30 minutes, during which fans and visitors can discover this exemplary Basque sport.
An announcer will also be present to enliven, describe and report on the different games and playing modalities. During this exhibition the traditional tortilla (Spanish omelette) competition will be held, with three categories: freestyle, traditional and professional. After the competition and the jury’s ruling, a tasting of tortillas will take place, accompanied by a selection of local products.
This event is open to anyone who wants enjoy this experience.

10/08/2024 Iron day

We usually celebrate this festival on the second Saturday in the month of August.
The aim is to revive the cultural heritage of coastal navigation, sailing and rowing. The day contains a full programme of related activities, including, among others, demonstrations of the oxcarts that once delivered iron to the monastery’s abbot in exchange for gold coins.
Also, throughout the day we organise entertaining events, shows and many surprises: the artisans’ market, forge exhibition, zikiro roast, performances and dances, etc.

We celebrate this rural festival in August.
We always prepare many activities for different age groups, making it a perfect option for the whole family. We organise music, Basque dances, an exhibition of herri kirolak (rural sports) with stone lifting, trunk chopping, sawing and weight carrying, etc.
Finally, after the exhibition, participants can enjoy a sardine banquet accompanied by a tasting of cider and typical local products.

We traditionally hold this event in October. The aim is to gather a certain number of breeders with a large number of horses to take part in the Burguete Breed Horse Contest.
The Burguete breed of horse is well reputed as a working animal and for food. It is in danger of extinction, whereby a decision was made to begin a programme to revive and preserve the breed. The horse competition has thirteen categories with corresponding prizes. The event also includes an artisans’ market, an exhibition of special cow breeds and horse-meat tasting.

19/10/2024 02/11/2024 Dantxarinea pintxo snack fortnight

The participating shops offer their clients a special pintxo snack which must be made with two ingredients proposed by their chefs.
This two-week event attracts all members of the public who want to enjoy a different culinary experience.
On the last day, a jury formed by professional chefs elects the winning pintxo.
The participants can also vote for the best pintxo by filling out ballots at the places where they are sold; they are thus eligible to win a weekend for two people at a very special place.
A draw is also held to award a meal at the winning restaurant for two of the participants with a comment published on the Facebook wall of Urdazubi/Urdax Dantxarinea indicating their preference for the winning pintxo.

The wine and cheese fair is held in April. This is the ideal occasion for lovers of these products to buy them. The sales outlets put up the fair’s traditional promotion poster.
In December, another fair focuses solely on wine. Wine lovers can enjoy this event every year.
